Orange 5 Programmer Pdf 15

Orange 5 Programmer: A Powerful and Versatile Device for Car Electronics

Orange 5 is a professional programming device for memory and microcontrollers. It supports a wide range of chips, including EEPROM, FLASH, EPROM, microcontrollers, automotive electronics, and others. It has high-speed USB 2.0 interface, hardware and software protection against unauthorized use, and free software updates. Orange 5 can be used for various applications, such as car radio decoding, car odometer correction, car immobilizer programming, car airbag reset, and more.

In this article, we will focus on one of the features of Orange 5: reading and writing through CAN of Renesas processors based Toyota and Subaru SRS (airbag) modules. This feature allows users to erase crash data in these modules without unsoldering the chip or using expensive flash programmers. It also enables users to modify the data in the flash memory according to their needs.

How to Read and Write SRS Modules with Orange 5

To read and write SRS modules with Orange 5, users need to have the following items:

  • Orange 5 programmer with CAN adapter

  • SRS module from Toyota or Subaru car

  • 12V power supply for SRS module

  • Orange 5 software version 1.31 or higher

  • HPX files for SRS modules (available in the software package)

The procedure for reading and writing SRS modules with Orange 5 consists of two main steps: work mode (CAN) and boot mode (CAN).

Work Mode (CAN)

This is the mode in which the SRS module operates while in a car. It is also possible to connect to the module while it is unplugged. In this mode, it is possible to read, compare and erase the flash memory. Reading the model number of the module is also available.

To enter work mode (CAN), users need to do the following:

  • Connect Orange 5 programmer to PC via USB cable

  • Connect CAN adapter to Orange 5 programmer

  • Connect CAN adapter to SRS module via CAN wires (CAN-H and CAN-L)

  • Connect power supply to SRS module via power wires (+12V and GND)

  • Run Orange 5 software and select the appropriate HPX file for the SRS module

  • Select "Work Mode (CAN)" from the menu

  • Select "Read Flash" to read the flash memory of the SRS module

  • Select "Save Flash" to save the flash memory as a file on PC

  • Select "Erase Flash" to erase the flash memory of the SRS module (this will make the module enter boot mode)

Boot Mode (CAN)

This is the mode in which everything accessible and any kind of manipulation of the module is possible. It is all up to the knowledge and need to add a particular code in the module. In this software project, the available operations are read/erase/write flash, read ID of the module from the EEPROM area, blank check and erase EEPROM.

To enter boot mode (CAN), users need to do one of the following:

  • Erase the flash memory of the SRS module in work mode (CAN)

  • Disconnect power supply from SRS module, connect CAN adapter to PC via USB cable, run Orange 5 software, select "Boot Mode (CAN)" from the menu, reconnect power supply to SRS module

In boot mode (CAN), users can do the following:

  • Select "Read Flash" to read the flash memory of the SRS module

  • Select "Save Flash" to save the flash memory as a file on PC

  • Select "Write Flash" to write a new flash memory file to the SRS module (this file can be obtained from another module or modified according to user's needs)

  • Select "Verify Flash" to compare the written flash memory with the file on PC

  • Select "Read ID" to read the ID of the SRS module from the EEPROM area

  • Select "Blank Check" to check if the EEPROM area is empty

  • Select "Erase EEPROM" to erase the EEPROM area of the SRS module

After writing a correct flash memory file and restarting the SRS module, it will go back to work mode (CAN).
